Backed by detailed hydrogeological assessment and water quality testing, BD Water delivered a sustainable water solution for Southern River College. From pre-drilling analysis to flow performance verification, the project showcases the value of science-driven bore construction tailored for long-term use.

The Challenge
Southern River College required a reliable and efficient groundwater source to support school operations and future water needs. The key challenge was to balance high flow potential with sustainable water quality, especially when dealing with deeper sand layers that posed potential salinity risks.
BD Water Solution
We began with a comprehensive pre-drilling hydrogeological assessment to strike the right balance between flow rate and water quality, ensuring a sustainable, high-performing bore tailored to the school’s needs.
The assessment provided valuable insights. Most notably, the identification of a natural clay barrier at 118–124m, which helps prevent salinity migration and protects long-term water quality. As a results, we:
- Drilled to a total depth of 156m
- Constructed the bore to 117m
- Included 36m of screens starting from 79m to maximise water quality and efficiency
Prioritised water zones showing improved quality from 70m onwards, with further gains from 100m
The Outcome
With drilling complete on our Leederville Aquifer bore for Southern River College, we’ve finalised flow and quality testing—and the results are in.
The bore achieved a maximum performance of 30 litres per second, with a recommended operating rate of 20 litres per second to support long-term efficiency and sustainability. The static water level was measured at 6.84 metres, indicating strong natural recharge and solid performance.
These results confirm a robust, sustainable water source for the Southern River College’s future needs – efficient, reliable, and optimised for performance.
